Three Reasons to Visit Ilocos Again and Again

Needless to say, Ilocos is the grand region of tourism north of Manila. It's heritage and beauty is something every Filipino and visitor in the PHL should experience. But aside from its grand historical structures and geographic landscapes, here are my top three reasons why I would always want to visit Ilocos Norte and Sur again and again:

1) Poque-poque at La Preciosa

I have never had an eggplant dish as good as this. It's soft, tasty and it melts in your mouth with a flavor so unique. And if you are at La Preciosa, don't forget to have any of their desserts.

The Paoay Church, a fantastic view as you eat at Herencia Cafe

2) Pinakbet Pizza at Herencia Cafe

No, the pizza does not have bagoong (salty shrimp paste), but it is cheesy and has lots of "pinakbet" veggies on it, a great experiment on a local classic dish. The place is right in front of the majestic Paoay Church. Having the structure as your view while nibbling on your pizza is a nice experience.

3) The Soft and Sticky Bibingka at The Sister's (Ilocos Sur)

I cant' believe this is Bibingka (famous Filipino rice cake). It's much softer than your typical bibingka and melts in your mouth like a Cassava. Amazing. The store is right along the highway public buses take on your way to Ilocos Norte.

And if you're in Ilocos, don't forget to grab a "cornick" too.
